Fractured Clavicle

The Thursday after Halloween I picked up Calvin to put him in his chair to eat dinner and he started crying. He said that his shoulder hurt. I thought that he just didn't want to eat his food as he has used this excuse at other times when I knew he wasn't hurt. Throughout the weekend he was inconsistent in complaining about the pain. Sometimes I picked him up and he was fine. And when I told him on Monday morning that I was taking him to the doctor he let me pick him up (several times) and insisted that he was "all better." We decided that he should be seen just in case. The doctor really didn't have any worries but sent him to get an x-ray anyway. I was shocked when the radiologist showed me the fractured clavicle. Calvin then had to be fitted with a figure 8 brace. He must wear the brace day and night for at least the next two weeks. He will have a follow up appointment at that time and they will determine whether he has to continue wearing it. He's getting used to the brace and is in great spirits. The only problem we have is trying to keep him from playing too hard.

October Snow

The kids were so excited for this unexpected snowfall before Halloween. It was perfect packing snow so we made a snowman with real coal eyes and buttons (which turned out to be a mistake because it was so dirty) and a fabulous wooden pipe that Chris made out of tree branches.
